PM and loadshedding (THE NEWS- August 19, 2012)
In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf put the entire blame of the current energy crisis on the previous regime and informed the nation that the incumbent government has in fact added 5000 MW electricity to the grid. I wonder why then do we face loadshedding, even after the addition of 5000 MW to the system, which is at least five times more than it used it be a until few years ago.
Besides going by the basic economic rule, if the supply of some utility increases, its price ideally remains the same, if not decreased. But probably such rules don’t apply to Pakistan where the government has almost doubled the electricity tariff. Incidentally, Raja Pervaiz is the same person whose claim to fame is the infamous rental power project.
